Welcome to the I-95 West River Bridge Project Site

The West River Bridge is a vital transportation structure constructed in 1958, carrying I-95 over the West River between New Haven and West Haven. Due to years of unforgiving New England weather, the bridge must be reconstructed to continue supporting the 135,000 cars and trucks that cross the West River on I-95 every day.

Completion of this bridge replacement project will allow for improved mobility and continue to benefit the region for years to come.

Motorist Advisory – An extended hour lane closure on I-95 Southbound between Exist 46 and 42 is scheduled at night on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in New Haven and West Haven.

The lane closures are necessary to perform a Stage 3 concrete deck pour from I-95 Southbound on Bridge No. 163.   This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 3A, New Haven.

This work is being is being performed by The Middlesex Corporation of Littleton, MA at a cost of $129,773,454.00 and is scheduled to be completed in August 2018.

Lane Closure Info

The concrete deck pour requires that the I-95 Southbound left and center lanes between Exits 46 and 42 will begin to be closed starting at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, September 20, 2017, with all lanes open by 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions this this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.   Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
